Five things to do to make the most of autumn this year

Autumn really is one of those times of the year where there is so much to do and you have the added benefit of it not be swelteringly hot or absolutely freezing, but rather, an ideal middle ground.  As autumn seems to flutter by ever so quickly before being replaced by the much colder temperatures, I have made a list of five things you can do to make the most of it this year.

1) Go pumpkin picking

You'll be wanting to book this sooner rather than later seeing as the tickets sell out so unbelievably quickly, but you would not believe just how fun it is to pick your own pumpkins.  This is an activity that has been on my bucket list for far too many years, so I booked the first tickets of this year and took along my mum and three of my younger siblings.  We all had so much fun and it resulted in a great day out for all of us.  Also, pumpkin picking is such a quintessentially autumnal activity, so if you want to get into the cosy autumn spirit then this will surely help.

2) Make autumnal food

Whether it's pumpkin soup or cinnamon fudge, you can make the most out of any season by indulging in the food.  I find that by really immersing myself in the seasonal food, I make the most out of it and enjoy it more.  I love to include many different flavours and spices, such as cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg into all different recipes.  Pies, stews, tarts - the list of autumnal food you can make is endless.

And as it starts to get ever so slightly chilly outside, I think we can all agree that bringing the warmer, more hearty meals to the table isn't only good for our tastebuds, but for our soul too.

3) Redecorate your home

As the seasons shift, so should your house decor.  I love to be in tune with the outside and by redecorating in sync with it, you adjust far more smoothly.  And no, by redecorating I don't mean strip your wallpaper and pay for a new kitchen (unless you want to of course), but instead add some autumnal touches, such as placing candles or fairy lights around the house to create a cosier environment for the longer nights ahead or tartan blankets on the sofas for the colder evenings.  It's these little touches that make all the difference and can change your entire perception of autumn.

4) Build a campfire

This may be something you'd enjoy as a solo activity to relax in the peace and quiet of nature, giving you the time to be with your own thoughts, or it may be something you prefer to have the company of other's included in, whether that be your family, friends, children, partner or pet.  Building your own campfire is both rewarding and therapeutic.  There is something about staring into a fire for hours that is almost meditative, as it dances before us and allows our minds to wander to a faraway place - something even our ancestors thousands of years ago would have experienced.

If unlike me, you enjoy camping, this too can be an activity done alongside building a campfire - in fact, the two go hand in hand and would make for a wonderful autumnal adventure.

5) Learn a new skill

Each season, I believe it is very important to take some time to learn a new skill.  Not only is this beneficial for the reason that you will have acquired a new skill, but it is also fun and prevents you from getting bored as you are busy working on something new.  Although it can be any skill you wish to learn, there are many skills that are very autumn appropriate, with my personal favourite being knitting.

By learning to knit you are able to make things such as jumpers, cardigans and blankets to name a few, and these can make really heartwarming gifts as it comes up to winter.

I hope that this post has given you some ideas on how you can make the most out of autumn this year and enjoy it more than you might usually.  If you have any other fun autumnal activities that you recommend trying out then feel free to comment below to give others more ideas of what to add to their list!

Lots of love,

Honey
